DESCRIPTION:This virtual performance has been postponed due to the new restrictions placed on Santa Barbara County. \nIn partnership with Goleta School of Ballet (GSB)\, we are proud to offer for the Holidays – a traditional\, full-length production of The Nutcracker! This traditional holiday favorite has been produced by GSB for over 30 years and boasts sumptuous\, colorful\, professionally designed costumes and backdrops. It will be the only Nutcracker staged in Santa Barbara\, where there are normally over four productions a year. Over 80 dancers ages 8-18 will appear onstage at The Luke Theatre\, videotaped with three cameras and edited for streaming\, free of charge.

DESCRIPTION:Resonance is a convergence of Santa Barbara artists to uplift\, unite and inspire our spirits. Musicians\, singers and speakers reflecting our diverse cultures will offer songs\, music and spoken words that resonate with the times in which we live. Created to infuse our community with peace\, togetherness and harmony\, over 30 participants will contribute to this unique and transformative offering\, direct from the Marjorie Luke stage.\nFor Resonance musical artists were asked to perform a work that resonated with them and infuse our community with peace\, togetherness and harmony. Over 30 artists and community members participated in the three days of videotaping on the Marjorie Luke stage to create this concert. The Virtual Concert Series will feature six major events\, with more being added through Spring of 2021. Each concert is professionally videotaped on the stage of the historic Luke Theatre\, and once edited\, will be available free online on this page indefinitely. Musicians in Resonance will perform established and original compositions created specifically for this unique event. artists include classical guitarist Chris Fossek\, composer Cody Westheimer playing the shakuhachi\, Alice Bradley on banjo\, Charlotte Choi on cello\, Gil Rosas and Jay Real on piano. Adam Phillips performs vocals\, guitar and Chinese flute and is joined by Laurie Rasmussen on Celtic harp and Nicole McKenzie on violin from the Santa Barbara Folk Orchestra\, and Miguelito Leon & Friends share a traditional Afro Cuban percussion and vocal work.

He moved forward on John Legend’s team. With a diverse catalogue filled with feverous finger picking\, mellow to manic melodies and lively\, moving lyrical content\, highly influenced by a variety of legends such as Richie Havens\, Johnny Cash\, Bob Dylan\, Jeff Buckley\, and John Mayer\, he has a fresh and folky yet funky take on music. DESCRIPTION:As everyone should be aware\, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and California public health officials issued a policy stating non-essential gatherings over 50 people be postponed for at least 8 weeks due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. \nGiven our event falls inside of this window\, An evening with Dr. Sunita Puri on May 5th at the Marjorie Luke Theatre has been cancelled for now. Our HSB team cares deeply about this event and the local community. \nWe understand this is an unprecedented and challenging time for everyone. We would like to thank you for your tremendous support\, as public safety is everyone’s top priority right now. Please know that we are truly saddened by the seriousness of this pandemic\, but we are hopeful and remain positive for the inevitable upturn. \nHospice of Santa Barbara presents Dr. Sunita Puri\, the Medical Director of the Palliative Medicine Service at Keck Hospital and Norris Cancer Center of the University of Southern California\, where she also serves as Chair of the Ethics Committee. In light of this development\, we have canceled the upcoming ¡Viva el Arte de Santa Bárbara! performances by Las Cafeteras on Fri.\, March 13 at 7 p.m. at Isla Vista School\, Sat.\, March 14 at 7 p.m. at Guadalupe City Hall and Sun.\, March 15 at 7 p.m. at The Marjorie Luke Theatre. \nWe make this decision with the safety and health of our community as our top priority. DESCRIPTION:Son Jarocho came about through the meeting of three worlds – Spanish\, African and Indigenous – and along with the Fandango it is an important part of the popular culture in both rural communities and the cities of the Sotavento region of the state of Veracruz. Los Utrera was founded in 1992 around the Son Jarocho traditions of the musical family of patriarch Esteban Utrera. The group uses various forms of guitars including guitarra de son\, jarana\, and jarana barroca\, along with quijada (donkey jaw)\, zapateado (foot percussion) and violin.
